SELF-CARE SUNDAY

Waking up early on a Sunday morning is my favourite.

Despite the fact that it will be Monday tomorrow, it encourages me to get everything I need to get done, done.

My Sunday normally starts off with my hopping in the shower or bath. The feeling of the hot water on my skin really does wake me up and it's like having an at-home sauna. I exfoliate using my body wash from Naturium (the Glycolic one is my favourite) and douse myself in cleanser to ensure that my skin is protected. After I've shaved, plucked and pruned, I lather myself in Kheil's body oil. Now, this body oil has a certain je ne sais quoi. it's amazing. The soft nutty and fragrant scent is divine and it moisturises my body like no other oil I've used.

Although I use Sunday to get everything done and like to be energised, my breakfast for the day is quite heavy. I usually go with tea or coffee and a breakfast hash. I'm much more of a savoury than sweet person when it comes to food so anything involving potatoes, a tangy tomato sauce and the occasional side of sausage is plus for me.

As soon as breakfast is done, I stop procrastinating and get straight onto the household chores. Laundry, grocery shopping, vacuuming, mopping, you name it, I've done it (except gardening, I have no green fingers so that task is outsourced). By the time, I'm done, it's almost dinner time and I scramble in the fridge to find something relatively healthy that will take curb my cravings. I usually resort to veggie spaghetti bolognese or risotto. I usually counteract the healthiness by sprinkling a stupid amount of cheese onto the meal but it is balanced out with a glass of ginger and lemon kombucha so I do not feel to regretful when I'm sifting through my freezer to get myself a sweet treat. I normally go for some lemon sorbet which is perfect for the summertime.

My lemon sorbet and I like to keep each other company on the sofa while watching an overly dramatic reality TV show or a tense drama, in which case, my dessert bowl is swapped for the nearest cushion used to block out any violence or to throw at my TV stand if the protagonist has made a (predictably) stupid move.

By this time, the sun has well and truly set and as a result, the Sunday scaries have set in. Even though Sunday comes around every single week, the feeling on panic and anxiety does not lessen nor do I get used to it. I normally find any which way to calm myself down and it normally involves a hot cup of herbal tea (my favourite is chamomile or peppermint) and listening to a podcast (something educational, especially if the last few hours were spent with my heart-rate being concerningly high).

It's times like these where I'm super grateful for splashing the cash on my bedding because as soon as I get into bed, I am enveloped by goose down and duck feathers and fresh cotton and silk pillowcases hitting my cheek.

The light goes off, my phone is on Do Not Disturb and the wind whistling outside sends me into a trance which renders me semi-conscious and leads me into tomorrow, ready to start the next day.
